Serengeti Safari Camp Luxury
Though the Serengeti park boundaries officially define the Serengeti, the ecosystem goes way beyond these limits; we call it the Greater Serengeti. It's a giant picture of wild Tanzania - masses of animals, contrasting landforms, and tribal peoples. We roam around the lot in true nomad fashion.
Serengeti Safari Camp is semi-nomadic - it won't move while you're there - but it's actually on a wide orbit, shadowing the Migration: so you, your own Tanzanian driver/guide and private 4WD vehicle are as close to a million wildebeest as possible.
The camp travels within the Serengeti National Park and surrounding area, where densities of animals are mostly higher, and the chance of seeing large predators is much greater. It's the base for exciting game drives - conquering the landscapes and absorbing the sheer hugeness of it all. Daily adventures are yours to plan with your own guide to take you into the midst.
Whilst you can head off from dawn to dusk on your own expeditions with private guide and 4WD vehicle, the small camp is sociable because it's shared - with just 12 guests staying in classic East African bush style, in fabulous campsites chosen for their close proximity to the migration.
Each of the six tents are light in their footprint, but with all that anyone might need in their own bush home: spacious tents with deeply comfortable beds, a roomy dressing area, and then an ensuite bathroom with long drop toilet, and traditional safari style bucket showers with hot and cold water on demand.
Only a short stroll away is the candlelit mess/library and dining tent for some evening safari bonhomie. Our safari chefs are absolute wizards at preparing the best meals in the midst of this bush paradise.
SERENGETI SAFARI CAMP - LOCATION
Serengeti Safari Camp changes location every few weeks, but not during your stay. The camp movements are pre-planned in an effort to be within reach of the wildebeest migration.
December to April:
The camp is on the southern Serengeti Plains with access to the main herds as they calve through February. Birding is excellent during this time, as is general game viewing.
May to Early July:
The camp moves to the Moru Kopjes area, central Serengeti Plains, and to the Western Corridor as the mass of the migration moves west and north. The migration patterns can be unpredictable at this time of year, but the wildebeest rut (May) and the crossing of the Grumeti River (June/July) are spectacular if caught.
Mid-July to November:
The camp moves to the quieter northern Serengeti close to either the Mara or Bologonja Rivers, offering great general game viewing and crossings of either of the two rivers.
Towards late November the camp starts to head south again, arriving on the southern Serengeti Plains around mid-December.

Kusini Camp Luxury

Situated on a kopje, Kusini Camp is the only permanent tented camp in this part of the Serengeti National Park. As such it affords guests the rare opportunity of exclusive drives and intimate walking encounters.
The surrounding short grass plains provide the setting for the most spectacular natural phenomenon in the whole of Africa, the wildebeest migration, during which time the hordes congregate around the camp in order to give birth. Each of Kusini's nine tents feature private showers and private terraces overlooking the plains. Gather for meals and stories in the dining tent, which also has an intimate library, lounge and veranda. Guests can also enjoy a picturesque bush breakfast or partake in the sundowner cocktail hour among the kopje boulders, while spotting for game, including zebra, cape buffalo, lion and leopard. The Camp offers superb all year-round game viewing opportunities in open vehicles, as well as guided bush walks. Built to complement and not compete with its most spectacular setting, Kusini blends seamlessly into the wilderness, in harmony with the architecture of nature.

Mbuzi Mawa Serena Tented Camp Luxury Tented Lodge

A private encampment of 16 superbly luxurious tents guarded by sentinel towers of granite, the camp radiates out from a central lounge. To the rear of the lounge a bar and boutique are fashioned from rope-lashed hardwoods and back-lit by whimsical coconut shades; and beyond them a rock-hewn stairway leads to a classically styled dining tent with soul-stirring views over the sun-blazed plains.
Unlike any other camp, Mbuzi Mawe Tented Camp lies at the epicenter of the Serengeti within easy reach of the prime wildlife theatres of Lobo, the Western Corridor of the Grumeti River, the southern grass plains and the Seronera Valley and the kopjes. A ringside seat for 'the greatest show on earth'.
Scenically located in a glade guarded by 3 million year old granite towers, Mbuzi Mawe (meaning Klipspringer in English) makes maximum use of its unique wilderness location. There are al fresco breakfasts, safari luncheons, lantern-lit bush suppers, campfire roasts, and dance displays by the Ikoma people as well as game drives, ranger-led bush walks, ornithology and sightings of: elephant, lion, cheetah, leopard, buffalo, hyena, wildebeest, zebra, giraffe, warthog, hippo and crocodile.
Accommodation comprises 16 spacious tents, each with 24-hour electricity, constant hot water, ensuite bathroom, dressing area, two double four-poster beds and a verandah with double sun bed. Kirawira Serena Tented Camp Luxury Tented Lodge
Standing high on the bluff of a bush-cloaked ridge, commanding panoramic views over the endlessly rolling reaches and volcanic reefs of the Serengeti National Park, Kirawira Camp is the epitome of colonially-styled safari luxury. Designed in typically Edwardian style, it features an elegant central meeting tent evocatively furnished with a tasteful selection of chintz-covered chaises longues, jewel-hued Persian rugs, antique escritoires, wind-up phonograms, leather-bound travelling cases, brass shooting sticks, carved rocking chairs, and stud-backed smoking chairs.
The tent also incorporates a stained-glass and mahogany Edwardian bar and a stone flagged, khaki-and-canvas 'Sun downer' terrace looking out over gently sloping acacia groves towards the lilac-grey hills and lion-gold plains of the Serengeti's Western Corridor, scene of the thunderous theatre of the million-strong wildebeest migration.
The essentially colonial ambiance of the tented-rooms (25 luxury tents) evokes colourful memories of the famous safaris of days gone by, when such romantic figures as Teddy Roosevelt and Edward, Prince of Wales indulged in lavish East African shooting safaris of unrivalled elegance. Each room has a personal valet and has been accommodated in a spacious canvas tent, erected on raised platforms of rope-lashed logs and sheltered by a bush-thatch roof. The décor is a clever blend of classic opulence and camp practicality featuring generous four-poster beds, hand-made patchwork quilts, steamer-trunk wardrobes, brass lamps, sepia photographs and rosewood escritoires, whilst to the rear of each tent is an elegant mahogany-panelled bathroom with twin marble washstands, polished brass fittings and classic black-and-white tiled Edwardian shower and lavatory. The tents have each a private terrace.
In keeping with the theme of colonial opulence, the elegant dining tents feature Edwardian-styled dining furniture, sprung floors, crisp-starched napery, delicate blue and white china and weighty silver accoutrements, whilst the staff are attired in classical colonial 'mess' uniform of white Swahili robes and turbans.
The extensive menus, meanwhile, feature full English breakfasts and five-course luncheons and suppers comprising delicate soups, lavish roasts, classic salads, home-made sorbets, local cheese boards and fresh-brewed Arabica coffee, whilst the extensive wine cellar reflects the best of both European and South African choices.

Ndutu Safari Lodge is situated in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area in the southern Serengeti eco-system, set under a canopy of giant acacias overlooking a soda lake, Lake Ndutu. The safari lodge still has the informal, intimate feeling of the original bush camp, built by legendary hunter George Dove in the 60's. It offers a superb base in which to explore the range of habitats that lie within easy reach, including swamps, woodlands, soda lakes and the world famous Serengeti short grass plains.
From about December to May the wildlife abounds at Ndutu -from spectacular birdlife to elephants, hyenas, zebras, lions and millions of wildebeest. They calve on the plains in February, gallop through the woodlands and swim across the lake. From June through November, the plains are dry and the great herds gone. This is the time when the resident animals converge around Ndutu's waterholes and marshes - elephants, giraffes, impalas, every kind of cat, a profusion of birds. As a result, it has been a favourite with professional wildlife photographers and film-makers for the past four decades.
Ndutu Safari Lodge consists of 34 single-storey stone cottages that extend from the central, open-sided bar, lounge and dining room. Loliondo Camp
Luxury Tented Camp, seasonally

Loliondo Camp is in the Loliondo Concession, a large unfenced area of Maasai commmunity land which immediately borders the north-eastern boundary of the Serengeti and is close to the south-eastern side of the Masai Mara. This is a place of outstanding natural beauty with a landscape of differing habitats,: from sweeping grassy plains to rolling wooded hills, acacia-lined watercourses and dramatic granite kopjes.
Loliondo Camp is set at the base of a granite monolith that shades the camp from the elements and feeds a waterhole frequented by game. As this is a completely private area, it is a superb place to really experience Africa - totally removed from any other tourism.
The classic tented accommodation is luxurious and spacious, with en-suite facilities (a washbasin, towels, a jug of water for washing and mineral water for drinking) and solar power lighting, and is fully and tastefully furnished, with safari chairs, tables, and comfortable beds. The tents are spread out throughout the kopje area, with the dining tent at the base of the main kopje rock.
The permanent camp crew takes a great pride in providing a first class service with excellent and varied menus, usually served in the dramatically situated dining tent, where there is waiter service for breakfast, lunch and romantic, candle-lit dinners. Breakfasts and lunches can also be arranged in the bush. There are multiple sundowner locations throughout the camp, and a camp fire -a wonderful location for stargazing and listening to the sounds of the African night.
Resident game is plentiful in the area, drawn during the dry seasons by the nearby waterhole and increasing in the spring and (especially) the autumn, when the Migration can be expected to pass through the Concession on its way to/from the Mara area.
Activities and excursions allow guests to experience the Maasai culture and the wildlife and plantlife in this region.
Although totally private, Loliondo Camp is easily accessible by air and road, being 80 minutes scheduled flight from Arusha (to Kleins Camp), then around one hour's drive (depending on game). The concession is closed during most of July and August.

Migration Camp

One of the Serengeti's most famous spots, the Migration Camp has the best of everything. Intimate, conveniently located and one of the best places from which to enjoy the migration; the camp is a must for honeymooners.
Migration Camp is a permanent luxury lodge and is located in the Northern Coridor of the Serengeti, on the main wildebeest migration route between the Serengeti and the Maasai Mara, along the bank of the Grumeti River. It is raised up on the side of an impressive kopje known as Poacher's Lookout, with broad views north over the undulating Serengeti hills and beyond to the plains of the Maasai Mara.
This part of the park is a quiet backwater compared with the more visited areas to the south and the very busy Maasai Mara to the north. In fact less than 1% of the total visitors to the eco-system of the Serengeti reach this remote corner. Up here you can really experience the wild side of the Serengeti.
The migration seasons at camp are centred around July and November when the herds pass through the area, sometimes crossing the river right in front of camp. Game-viewing from the breakfast terrace can be superb. Additionally there is good resident game throughout the year, especially lion, leopard and elephant.
The camp has just 20 luxury safari tents, which are arranged in pretty random fashion around the lodge. Each of the tents has an en-suite bathroom, with permanent plumbing and electricity is provided by a generator evenings and mornings. Sockets are UK 3-pin 230 volt.
Serengeti Migration Camp is 12 kilometres from the Lobo airstrip and 90 kilometres from Seronera, which is a one-hour flight from Arusha.
Activities: The annual migration passes incredibly close to (and sometimes partly through.) the camp. In such a location, it's not surprising that the camp is serious about game, offering superb day and night game-drives in specially-designed open vehicles with the resident game guide, and some excellent short walking safaris, which allow guests to get up close to the wildlife. In addition, elegant bush dinners can be laid on, complete with fine furniture, table linen and place settings, outstanding food and waiter service.
